Happy summer! Last week marked the first official week of that sweet season of sunshine and long days, where the sun wakes early and glows late, melting into the night as the flourishing earth soaks up every last glimmer. Morning hikes, afternoons in the garden, bright hours at work, cooling off in the pool, riding through the hayfields, sunset gazing over the lake, there is something about the warmth and golden glow of summer that promises hope. Hope for strength today and change tomorrow and peace in eternity. While I don’t want to lose myself in the bliss of summer and live blind to the turmoil that surrounds me, the glow of endless summer days reminds me of the goodness of my Savior to bring light into the darkness. A few weekends ago, my best friends and I returned from a lovely trip to northern Michigan. Our days were chock full of memories (stay tuned to hear more of our adventures in an upcoming post!) but every night we savored glowing sunsets over Lake Michigan. On one of those summer evenings, my lovely friend Lauren over at Wildflower Northern and I had an impromptu sunset shoot on the beach. While these photos don’t do justice to the vibrant pastels of the sky and the rosy shimmer of light over the waves, I tried to capture the summer vibes, the overflowing joy, Lauren’s brilliant laughter, and the happy perfection of those moments. We had a lot of fun experimenting with the lighting, trying some silhouettes to highlight the stunning colors of the sunset. Turns out the random surfboard we hauled out of the boathouse ceiling (which nearly dropped on Lauren's head in the process) made a perfect prop. Honestly, this shoot was just a blast. And Lauren is such a natural in front of the camera (just check out her blog!). But even more than that, her beautiful light and enthusiasm for life is contagious. Anything, anytime, anywhere with Lauren you're bound to be laughing hysterically and enjoying every moment. It was a lovely evening - the water was crisp but refreshing, the summer breeze stirred gently in the dune grass, the waves lapped lyrically against the rocky shoreline, and everything glimmered under the rosy light of sunset. The promise of tomorrow is just beyond the horizon and yet the beauty of today lingers still, begging us to see it. Thanks for reading! See you in my next post. :)
